We offer custom modified dimmer switches designed especially to offer an undimmed output terminal to allow fixtures and accessories that are not dimmable, to be switched alongside dimmable fixtures.
We recommend our dimmer modification service for the following:
- Timer or Switched Extractor fans in bathrooms;
- 230v triggered MEV/MVHR systems;
- Non dimmable LED lit mirrors in bedrooms or bathrooms;
- Mirror heaters such as Demista;
- Supplimentary (e.g. Kitchen under cabinet) or accent lights to be used alongside dimmable primary lights, without needing extra switches;
- And more...
In all cases please be aware of the dimmer current rating, although our design bypasses the dimmer circuitry for undimmed loads, we don't recommend exceeding the designed maximum load for the dimmer over both of the output terminals.
Please be aware that by default, dimmers will not retain their two way functionality, as we repurpose one of the terminals for the undimmed output. On occasion it isn't possible for us to retain this functionality in most digital or LED dimmers, however it can typically be retained in triac/diac style dimmers, please let us know if you require this.
We can modify most dimmers, we typically recommend vPro modules for modification, and we often have immediate stock of these, however Hamilton Litestat is another recommended option. Older style triac dimmers are available on request.
Why choose modified dimmers?
- Prevent flickering on lights that aren't compatible with dimming.
- Allow all timer extractor fans to trigger properly, even at low dim settings where typically, fans would not trigger.
- Prevent damage or incorrect operation of fixtures otherwise incompatible with dimming.
- Allow the rest of the fixtures to dim intuatively, as expected.
- Avoid the need for unreliable humidistats or unsightly PIRs.
Please contact us for purchase.
Please be aware that some dimmers are unlikely to be modification friendly and hence we have not attempted modification on them, a non exhaustive list may include:
- Touch dimmers such as BG or Varilight.
- Multi way dimmers such as VPro Smart Rotary (MJM100) or Hamilton Smart Control.
- In line Dimming Modules such as those from Forbes and Lomax, or Corston.
- Many digital/wifi dimmers without real on/off switches within them.
However, we are willing to explore these on request, please contact us.
We would also not recommend our modification service for dimmer modules without a two way functionality.
